Bimini Baths spa and plunge (public swimming pool) at Third and Vermont, Los Angeles, early 1900s

Bimini Baths spa and plunge (public swimming pool) In 1903, Dr. David Edwards opened the Bimini Baths, a spa and “plunge” (public swimming pool) built on a natural hot spring on Bimini Place in what is now Koreatown. The Bimini Baths burned to the ground in 1905 and a much grander facility went up in its place. Later, across from the spa Dr. Edwards also built a deluxe hotel, known as the Bimini Inn. This building still exists although now it is an apartment building dedicated to people in recovery.

Nice to see some family history. Dr. David Edwards was my great grandfather.

My great aunt and uncle owned the cafe there. Or managed it? Anyway I wish I had asked more questions !!!

    Hi, Martin,
    Nice pictures.
I just came across (stored in my garage for 30 years; I collect them) an old 5-gallon bottle made by William McLaughlin for Bimini Bottling Works, Los Angeles. Undated, but the style of the bottle fits the 1920’s. Mention of water bottling at Bimini appears in several newspaper articles but I have found out little about the water bottling side of the concern. The bottle is not listed in Fred Padgett’s “Dreams of Glass: The Story of William McLaughlin and His Glass Company”, and is, I suspect, a rare item. Do you have any information about the bottling of Bimini water?
